The Futures and Options Market (VİOP) is a market established under the umbrella of Borsa Istanbul where futures and options contracts are traded. Tera Yatırım, with its Intermediary Activity License, transmits its clients' transactions to Borsa Istanbul.
Distinguishing itself from traditional investment instruments, the most important feature of futures contracts is that they involve contracts for the delivery or receipt of a standardized quantity and quality of an asset at a predetermined price on a specified date. Option contracts, on the other hand, are contracts that grant the right to buy or sell an underlying asset (commodity, currency, securities, interest, etc.) at a fixed price within a specified period. Investors with a higher risk appetite for price fluctuations can trade in this market.
Investors engage in buying and selling futures and option contracts in the Futures and Options Market for investment, hedging, and arbitrage purposes.
Advantages of VİOP:
- Leverage Effect: Futures markets provide investors with the opportunity to take large positions with a small investment and achieve high profits through leverage. However, leverage also entails a higher risk of rapid and substantial losses compared to the spot market.
- Ability to Profit from Price Declines: The Futures and Options Market allows trading even when the market is falling (short selling). This enables investors to benefit from price declines by taking short positions.
- Portfolio Diversification: Futures markets offer options for portfolio diversification and spreading risk.
- Counterparty Risk: Transactions in VİOP are secured by the guarantee of Takasbank.
- Synthetic Positions: Synthetic positions with similar return profiles to products traded in the spot markets can be created using products traded in the futures markets. Due to this feature, futures markets contribute to increasing efficiency in markets and reducing price fluctuations (volatility) in the spot market.
- Earning Interest on Collateral: The collateral you deposit to take positions in VİOP is invested by Takasbank under the best possible conditions, thus allowing your deposited funds to be utilized and earn interest.
Markets are established based on the type and characteristics of the contracts traded in the Futures and Options Market.
